A Guide to Affiliate Programs and internet scams. Scam or Not? Want to know if something is a scam?

What is Mylot?
The quick answer is that Mylot is a forum where you get paid a few cents for each post you make. Of course there is an affiliate program, read on to find out more about it. I should quickly add that I have already received $20 payment from Mylot via Paypal so I can safely say it is not an internet scam… but that does not necessarily mean it will make it to my recommended affiliate programs section.
Ways to Earn on Mylot
1. Starting discussions (the more replies you get the more you earn, so its in your interests to make them interesting - this has the added bonus of making Mylot are more fun community)
2. Replying to other peoples discussions (you get more if you do a more lenghty post - about 4 lines or more)
3. Uploading relevant images to your replies and/or discussions
4. Getting referrals via their affiliate program (you get to keep 25% of your referrals earnings - they do not lose anything)
My Tip: you do not get paid for replying to discussions you have started, but you should still do this as it can help to keep the discussion going and will make you a more respected member.
So those are the good things, but it can’t be perfect.
The main negative about Mylot is the all-round low pay rate. Earning $0.01 - $0.04 per post may be considerably better than non-paying forums but you defiantly can’t live on that. This impacts the affiliate program because if your referrals earnings are low then yours will be too.
I have found that if you post for most of the day you could can earn about $4 max. (The most I ever made in a single day posting was about $3 but I didn’t quite post all day).
The flipside to this low level of earnings is that it requires little or no skill, which makes referring people very easy. The mere idea of being paid for posting seems very appealing to the masses.
Judging in terms of promotional tools Mylot falls flat on its face. All you are given to make referrals via their affiliate program is an affiliate link and an email option. But, if you want some banners then do not fear! I designed a few and posted them up on my Mylot banner post here (on my blog). You can see an example of my favourite below:

Conclusion
I have already assured you that Mylot isn’t an Internet scam. However, due to it’s low pay rate it is not a top paying affiliate program and as far as affiliate programs go the promotional tools let it down. For those reasons it does not make it into my recommended affiliate programs section.
My advice
Mylot may have a fairly low pay rate, but it has other useful purposes. I regularly use it to promote my websites and it does send a fair amount of traffic. It’s also great for meeting online contacts, many of which are interested in making money online. For the ‘affiliate program niche’, they are the perfect candidates to turn into your referrals. I do recommend it, but not for its affiliate program.
